MINNEAPOLIS, Dec. 18, 2006 -- PepsiAmericas, Inc. (NYSE: PAS) today announced that Deborah E. Powell, M.D. was elected to the Company's Board of Directors. Dr. Powell, 67, is Dean of the Medical School, Assistant Vice President for Clinical Sciences and a McKnight Presidential Leadership Chair at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. Dr. Powell is a board-certified surgical pathologist with over 30 years of experience in academic medicine.
In making the announcement, PepsiAmericas' Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Robert C. Pohlad commented, "Deborah is a strategic thinker that brings a distinctively new and different perspective to PepsiAmericas. Her diverse experiences as both a business and academic leader will make her a significant contributor to the PepsiAmericas' Board."
Dr. Powell received her medical degree from Tufts University and completed her residency at Georgetown University Medical Center and the Clinical Center of the National Institute of Health. She is an active member in several national organizations and serves as a board member of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education and the Institute for Healthcare Improvement.
PepsiAmericas' Board also amended the Company By-Laws to provide for the election of directors by a majority vote standard in uncontested elections. In contested elections, the plurality vote standard would remain in place.
